Budget 2022-23

The 10th budget of Modi Raj (Budget 2022) is going to be presented on February 1. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the Union Budget 2022 in Parliament on February 1 at 11 am. Till 69 years after independence, the Budget was presented on the last date of February. But this tradition changed during the first term of the Modi government 5 years ago.

The tradition of presenting the Union Budget on the first day, instead of the last day of February started in the year 2017. The then Finance Minister Arun Jaitley presented the Union Budget for the first time on 1 February 2017.Budget 2022

Why was the date of presenting the Budget changed?

The fiscal year cycle in the country is from April to March. With the Budget presented on the last date of February.The processes related to the implementation of Budget proposals could not be completed before the start of the new financial year. This led to delays in formulating policies and implementation of budget proposals for the new fiscal year. The date of presenting the budget has been changed. So that the processes related to budget proposals can be completed in time before the start of the new financial year.

Due to the change in the date of the budget, the date of the Economic Survey was also changed

Arun Jaitley had said, ‘If the beginning of the financial year is considered from 1st April.Then why should the budget not be passed before that. This will benefit the farmers and businessmen as well as the general public and will also help the government to make public-benefit policies on time. Due to the change in the date of presenting the budget, the date of presenting the Economic Survey was also changed to 31 January.

The Union Budget 2022-23 is also going to be paperless like as last time for the financial year 2022-23.Honable  Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the Budget 2022 in Parliament on February 1. As Every year the printing process of the budget starts with the Halwa Ceremony but now  this time the Halwa Ceremony was not organized in view of the current situation of covid pandemic . But the sweets are  provided to the whole core staff with complete safety  precautions.

At present, the printing of budget documents is done in a printing press built in the basement of the North Block of the Central Secretariat or Secretariat Building. The Union Ministry of Finance is also located in the same building in the North Block. The printing of budget documents used to happen in Rashtrapati Bhavan till three years after independence.

Budget leaked In 1950 –

Till 1950, the printing process of the Budget was done in Rashtrapati Bhavan. But after then in 1950 some important  part of the Budget was leaked. After this the printing process started in the press located at Minto Road, New Delhi with fully security . Then from 1980 Budget  was printed in the printing press which is  built in the basement of North Block. To maintain the fully secrecy of the budget, which after the Halwa Ceremony, Approx.  100 employees of the High Ministry involved in the printing process of the budget. They stay in the printing press in the basement of North Block . For the next few days until the final processing .

These officers remain completely  closed till the presentation of the Union Budget in the Budget press. During this, completely tight security arrangements are made for safety. These officers and employees come in contact with their families . Only after the Union Finance Minister presents the Budget in Parliament.

 Paperless Budget-

Due to covid panadmic , this time also the Budget will also be paperless like last time. The Union Budget for the financial year 2021-22 was presented in a paperless form for the first time in india . A ‘Union Budget Mobile App’ was also launched for hassle free access of Budget documents by the Members of Parliament (MPs) and also general public . The Union Budget of  2022-23 will also be easily available on the mobile app .But after the completion of the budget presentation process which held  in the Parliament on 1 February 2022.
